 This position performs several job functions under the supervision of the Sergeant. This individual is responsible for receiving evidence items received at the Police Department and the proper disbursement of all evidence. Excellent communication skills are required to contact internal officers and other related agencies. A general knowledge of laws pertaining to processing and storing evidence is necessary. This position will also be responsible for collecting and processing digital media evidence, maintaining records and tagging evidence. This position must be trusted to a high level of security, as evidence can be large amounts of money, jewelry and/or drugs to be used to prosecute criminals in court cases. Knowledge of computer based inventory systems is required.


No direct supervisory responsibilities, however this position must direct actions of Police Officers in the proper submission and security of evidence.


 The listed duties are essential job functions that the position has been created to perform. The list of duties is not exhaustive.  The employee may be called upon to perform any task that is implied from the listed duties or is within the scope of the job summary.

1. Receiving, storing, and disposition of evidence and property items to be maintained by the Conroe Police Department

2. Maintaining paper, computer and media records on evidence chain of custody for case files.

3. Release of evidence and property to investigators, courts, other law enforcement agencies or other legally interested parties.

4. Court testimony as the custodian of records of evidence as required

5. Preparation of forms, packaging, and transport of evidence to processing labs, donation sites, or destruction sites.

6. Maintaining, ordering, and stocking evidence processing supplies and needed

7. Act as liaison to District Attorney's office regarding evidence matters.

8. Maintain cleanliness and safety of evidence, property, and receiving areas.

9. Train and assist officers in the packaging and submission of evidence and property.

10. Preparation and dissemination of test results to detectives, courts, prosecutors.

11. Other duties as assigned.


  1. Knowledge of computerized inventory control software and other Microsoft software including word processing.
  2. Ability to properly record and distribute inventory.
  3. Good oral and written communication skills to contact Police officers internally, the public, and other agencies to obtain important information related to the evidence for court.
  4. Knowledge of laws related to tracking, storage and production of evidence for court.
  5. Ability to operate all general office equipment 


  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum two years experience in Police related work, or civilian related field such as inventory control, computer warehouse operations and maintenance of records and receipts.
  3. Prior experience in working with audio, video, and digital media.
