Develop and initiate projects programs and events to encourage and promote the tourist and convention industry within the City of Conroe, including programs promoting Conroe's historic structures, attractions and hotels. Support the development of cultural and quality of life opportunities for Conroe's citizens.  Directs and manages the Convention and Visitors' Bureau to meet the goals and objectives defined by the City Council.


The CVB Manager is accountable for the effective management and direction of comprehensive public relations, advertising, and marketing programs which promote overnight visitation and hotel stays in Conroe and for the marketing of local events and tourism opportunities to local venues and businesses, including the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center.


The listed duties are essential job functions that the position has been created to perform. Attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.

1. Develops programs, marketing and distribution channels and systems to monitor activities in order to inform and attract leisure or business groups and individuals as visitors to Conroe to use hotel facilities, attractions, retail areas, Lake Conroe, golf course, restaurants, etc

2. Plans and directs the administration of CVB operating policies and procedures including budgets, facility activity reports, revenue forecasts and anticipated expenditures; works closely with the Advisory Board and informs Council of activities; selects, trains and evaluates personnel.

3. Provides strategic marketing and sales leadership and direction for the use of hotel accommodations and meeting facilities; monitors program effectiveness and modifies direction and implementation to meet rapidly changing market trends

4. Develop initiatives, opportunities and programs that reflect the general consensus of those Boards and then provide the motivation and direction to bring these projects and programs to fruition.

5. Actively involved in travel and trade shows, sales calls, negotiating contracts, attends various industry organization meetings for marketing and data collection purposes, special events/festival planning.

6. Ensures Conroe marketing and program development and implementation are cost-effective, within planned budgets and consistent with City Council and an advisory board direction

7. Ensures CVB financial records and activity reports are accurate, up-to-date and fairly represent current conditions and are available for review and discussion with Council and City Management


  1. Must be well informed of marketing, advertising, promotion, accounting and forecasting practices. The manager must understand the issues from the various points of merchants, public agencies, property owners and community organizations.
  2. Must have writing ability and excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling the manager to articulate local program goals in both group and one-to-one situations.
  3. Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  4. Must have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships, which foster cooperation between the public, business owners and community leadership.
  5. Must demonstrate the following: diplomacy when working with a variety of people, energy, entrepreneurial imagination, capacity for functioning independently, effective people skills, adaptable and flexible attitude and initiative.
  6. Ability to maintain vital contacts and assist with events and activities.
  7. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work closely with others as part of a team. Working knowledge of timelines and production schedules, and excellent organizational skills.
  8. The ability to conduct all required duties related to office, travel/trade shows, and industry events that may require standing, sitting, walking, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, bending, and lifting 25 lbs.



  1. Bachelor's Degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field required, with an advanced degree or extensive experience in advertising and public relations Must have at least 3 years related experience.
  2. Capable of working odd hours, weekends, and some evenings.
  3. Computer literate in Microsoft Office software and graphic design software.
  4. Supervisory experience preferred.
