Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, Pool and Recreation Center facility usage


Provides professional engineering and administrative services in connection with the, design and construction of all water, sewer, streets and drainage projects within the City's Engineering Department.


No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

The Engineering Assistant shall perform a variety of engineering / technical duties in a practical setting.


 The listed duties are essential job functions that the position has been created to perform. The list of duties is not exhaustive. The employee may be called upon to perform any task that is implied from the listed duties or is within the scope of the job summary.  Must be able to work emergency and on call time. Attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.


  • Must be able to organize, plan and keep up with work schedules and employee assignments.
  • Must be able to field investigate projects to assure proper and feasible design of public works projects.
  • Must be able to visit sites and give engineering advice to city contractors or city departments.
  • Must be able to recognize the importance of projects and prepare studies based on field conditions and economic alternatives.
  • Must be capable of designing all types of public works projects with a high level of expertise in water projects, sewer projects, roadway, parks, and drainage.
  • Must be capable of preparing and reviewing engineering plans.
  • Must be capable of reviewing contractor/city staff progress of construction.
  • Ability to design and supervise the construction inspection of moderate public works projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to make effective presentations to various groups and assemblies.
  • Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinate professionals and technical staff, including surveyors and draftsmen.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform surveying calculations, construction surveys and field staking by the use of modern surveying equipment such as total station and their related computer programs.



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering which has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) from a four-year college or university.
  • Required: Hold an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of 4 years responsible experience in with a municipality, public entity or a consulting civil engineering firm preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of modern methods and techniques used in the design, construction and inspection of public works projects.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulatory codes applicable to design and construction of public works projects and acquisitions of right-of-way.
  • Computer experience utilizing Civil Engineering programs for the design of water, sewer, storm sewer, drainage channels, streets, parks and other public works projects. Must have one-year minimum experience in preparing plans with AutoCAD Program.
  • FEMA; National Flood Insurance Program & Code of Federal Regulations experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
