Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, Pool and Recreation Center facility usage


This position is responsible for the facility operations at the City of Conroe Aquatic Center pools and the Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center pool. Specific areas of operations include lifeguards, admission, concession, and rentals. 


Supervisory responsibilities include all aspects of facility operations inclusive of staff development and supervision, budget, and marketing. Fiscal accountability is required with some of the department's budget preparation and implementation including forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.  Prepare and submit participation and financial reports monthly, and as requested.  Participate in the development, recommendation, and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities.  Ingenuity and independent thinking are required under general supervision. 


 The listed duties are essential job functions that the position has been created to perform. The list of duties is not exhaustive.  The employee may be called upon to perform any task that is implied from the listed duties or is within the scope of the job summary.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule and accessible/flexible for "on call" matters of importance and/or emergencies.  Contribute to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned. Attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.

  1. Provide leadership in all aspects of the operation of the aquatic facilities. Responsible for the safety of all patrons; promote high quality customer service at all times.  Publicize and distribute program information.
  2.  Recruit, select, train, assign, support, supervise and evaluate full time and part time employees inclusive of assistant aquatic coordinators, lifeguards, admission and concession attendants.
  3.  In cooperation with other supervisory staff, establish Emergency Action Plans and train all staff in safety and rescue protocol. Respond to an emergency as a "first responder" when required.
  4.  Assist when needed with various pool maintenance duties; assist with monitoring and maintaining pool chemistry and mechanical systems at the aquatic facilities.
  5.  Assist with the annual budgetary and facility planning process.
  6.  Participate in the development, recommendation, and implementation of yearly goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities.
  7.  Collaborate with local, regional, state and national organizations in development of aquatic programs, classes and special events utilizing City and local venues. Seek out grants, sponsorships, and volunteerism. 
  8.  When necessary, willing and able to perform duties as a "sub," ie lifeguard, instructor, aquatic exercise instructor, admission/concession attendant.


  1. Ability to interact directly with the public utilizing excellent communication and customer service skills.
  2. Ability to evaluate and improve existing programs; initiate new programs through the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation process.
  3. Ability to walk, stand, kneel, climb, sit and swim for long periods of times; lift 75 pounds.
  4. Knowledge and ability to lifeguard, lead aquatic exercise classes, and teach swim lessons and lifeguard course as needed.
  5. Knowledge of methods and practices required to coordinate aquatic facilities..
  6. Attend training sessions, seminars, workshops, certifications as recommended by supervisor.


Understanding and ability to operate all devices/aides used for teaching in the aquatic environment; basic office equipment, AED (automatic external defibrillator), devices for administration of supplemental Oxygen, all first aid supplies and equipment, all rescue equipment, all pool cleaning tools and machines, automatic chair lift, aquatic hydraulic system, hand tools, leaf blower, and power washer.


Face mask for rescue breathing and CPR, facemask protector during chemical use, protective safety glasses, rubber and latex gloves.


  1. Bachelor degree in Parks, Recreation, Physical Education, or related field required.
  2. Five years experience in aquatic operations, three years in a supervisory role.
  3. Certified as an Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or be willing to obtain within one year of hire date.
  4. Current American Red Cross certifications Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguarding (LG), Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Instructor, AED, and Oxygen Administration.
  5. Certified as an Aquatic Exercise Association instructor or be willing to obtain within one year of hire date.
  6. A valid Texas class "C" driver license.
  7. Must pass all job related checks and screens under employment eligibility.
